When I asked my son how he wanted to celebrate his high school graduation, he simply said pie. In fact, his exact words were “I want you to bake me a berry pie, with a top and bottom crust”. So guess what I spent the day baking? I tried convincing him that a crisp or cobbler is the way to go, but he disagreed. “A real pie mom, with a flakey crust, and lots of berries, that is just for me”.
I had to laugh because my son never asks for anything. He’s really easy going, and whenever you ask if he needs anything, his reply is usually “I’m good”. So I knew that when he requested his own double crusted berry pie, that is what he really wanted more than anything.
He also knows our family too well. You see, we have pie tunnelers in our house, who will carefully tunnel the filling out of the pie, while leaving the crust in tact. It can be very upsetting to reach for a bite of pie, and find that there is only hollow crust left. So his request to have his own pie, was really his way of saying “there will be no pie tunneling with my graduation pie”.
Pie is a special thing. Hopefully this pie is the first of many celebration pies to come.
Congratulations on a job well done Noah. I love you very much, and am so proud of you!

haa, next time the tunnelers hit a pie at your place, let me know! the crust (with just a coating of filling…) is my favorite part!
congrats to Noah – exciting times!

Aww, thanks Sarah! Actually, that wasn’t the exact pie, because my picture didn’t come out. So that was a pie that I made last fall. Also berry.

That is hilarious! I would love to have a pie tunneler around here cause I’m the opposite – I eat all the berry soaked crust! Your pie looks delicious and congrats to your son!
