Now, a little bit about myself:
Hi, I’m Julie. Welcome to my website! I am a classically trained chef and love to create and share delicious recipes that everyone can enjoy. I don’t ever want anyone to feel like amazingly delicious food is off limits, just because you don’t eat certain things. So whether you are plant-based, veg-curious, can’t eat gluten, want to make cupcakes for your allergic niece or are just looking for a great recipe, I’m your girl!
While all of my new recipes are gluten-free, you will find recipes on this site that contain gluten. I had to give up gluten about 9 years ago, so all of the new recipes on my site are made without any wheat, rye, barley, and the like.
I also have a huge sweet spot for desserts, so there are lots of delectable dessert recipes too. When I had to give up gluten, I became more determined then ever to learn how to make stellar baked goods without gluten, eggs and dairy. After many years as a professional chef and baker (and having written 9 cookbooks), it took several years of experimenting, many hundreds of bags of gluten-free flours and grains, and a very strong determination. You don’t even want to know how many hundreds of cakes, muffins, cookies, and loaves of bread I had to throw away. But there is a silver lining here. I was able to create all of the breads, pizzas, cakes, cookies and savory dishes I made before, but without gluten!
In addition to being a longtime healthy chef, I am also a licensed esthetician and specialize in sensitive and aging skin. As someone who has struggled with eczema and chronically dry skin my whole life, I decided to go back to school so I can help others. As different as the careers sound, what you put on your body is just as important as what you put in it.

Julie’s Bio:
Julie is a graduate of UCLA Professional Chefs program and is the author of nine cookbooks, including Vegan Diner, Vegan Pizza, Vegan Casseroles, The Complete Book of Pies, 125 Best Cupcake Recipes, and more. She has been featured on radio and in magazines including The Cooking Channel, Veria Channel, Better, Better Portland, Good Day Oregon, Martha Stewart Radio, Bon Appetit, Cooking Light, Vegetarian Times, and VegNews Magazine. She has appeared on TV segments all over the country, and can be seen monthly on Portland’s AM Northwest.
In addition to working as a private chef for celebrity clients, she’s also owned and operated several food businesses including a bakery, catering company, Native Bowl (a beloved food cart in Portland), and Julie’s Original (a company specializing in gluten-free baking mixes).
While writing her very wheat-filled Vegan Pizza cookbook, Julie was heartbroken to discover gluten was making her sick. She was forced to take her culinary work in a new direction, since she was no longer able to taste the recipes she was developing. That’s when she became obsessed with perfecting gluten-free baking.
When not cooking in the kitchen, Julie can be found camping with her hubby in their trailer, lovin’ on her rescued pooch Billy, or hanging out with her awesome children and family.
