Celebrate Summer!

June 20, 2013 By Julie Hasson

I was wondering how I could kick off the first day of summer on my blog. And, thanks to the generous folks at Ruby’s Rockets, I’ve got just the thing…

Every day, I get a lot of emails from companies asking me to try their products. I’m very picky about what I will share on my blog, so it has to be something really cool to get my attention. So when I was asked if I would give Ruby’s Rockets a try (which is a new line of healthy popsicles made entirely from fruits and vegetables, with no added sugar), I thought, what the heck. And you know what? They are really good. My daughter thought that they tasted like a frozen smoothie, and I agree. If Ruby’s Rockets were around when my kids were young, they definitely would have been a staple in our freezer. And, the only sweetening in them is organic white grape juice. They’re low-sugar, vegan, gluten-free, fat free (1 flavor is low-fat), GMO-free, non-dairy, kosher and NO added sugar or high fructose corn syrup! Plus, how can you not love flavors like Rock-It Red, Galaxy Green and Orbit Orange?

Ruby’s Rockets are launching the pops in Portland this weekend, and have a few events happening at Zupan’s market, should you live in Portland and want to give them a try. Here’s the Portland details:

Friday, June 21:
Zupan’s Burnside 2340 West Burnside Portland, OR 10-12pm
Zupan’s Macadam 7221 SW Macadam Portland, OR 2-4pm
Zupan’s Belmont 3301 SE Belmont Portland, OR 5-7pm

And, for all of the rest of you, there is a chance to win something very cool. The folks at Ruby’s have offered a giveaway for my readers. A “Summer Supply” of Ruby’s Rockets, which is 12 boxes of frozen pops! All you have to do is leave a comment, along with your name (and email address), and tell us what your favorite summer fruit is. The contest is open to U.S. residents only. Good luck!

Disclosure: I was provided with samples of the ice pops to taste, and Ruby’s Rockets is providing ice pops to the winner. All opinions are always my own.

Well it’s the sour cherries from my parents cherry trees. I love making jams pies and cherry cordial with them . They are so bright red and a pain in the ass to pick and pit them but well worth the effort . And with the left over juice from pitting them I make cherry lemonade. Picking and pitting on Monday 🙂

I am all about the strawberries! They just don’t taste right when grown out of season, so I pretty much have to wait all year to enjoy them.

Watermelon is my favorite with peaches coming in close behind. They might make number one, but finding organic ones is difficult

Peaches! Growing up in The Dalles, we had a neighbor with a peach farm that would share large boxes of peaches with my family. My Mom cut them into slices and gave me a bowl of juicy peaches every afternoon. Yumm! Makes me want to be a kid again. 🙂

Blueberries for me! We bought them by the case when I was a kid and made boatloads of jams and pies and pop-tarty treats. I love them in almost anything!
And hey Ruby’s Rockets…you need a blueberry flavor! Blueberries and figs and fennel? Blueberries and plums and parsnips? 🙂
